Christmas 2007
Dear,
The Christmas season is the best time for me to write to you--to
send a loving wish for all good things before the close of one year and the
beginning of a new one. This is the
season for celebration and joy! It’s the
perfect opportunity for me to let you know how very much I care. Sending a
holiday card is such a pleasure. As I
write each letter I am reminded how very dear you are to me. I am amazed at the number of my posterity and
how each one has contributed to my happiness.
I want to tell you a story……
Long ago a candy maker, who dearly loved the Savior, fashioned a
special candy that would have meaning and would honor our Lord during the
Christmas Season. So he designed the
first candy cane.
The candy cane is in the shape of a shepherd’s staff which the
shepherd uses to watch over his sheep.
The Lord is our Shepherd, and although he may not use a staff, he still
guides us and seeks for us when we are lost.
The Lord is often depicted in pictures holding a staff. Truly, HE IS OUR SHEPHERD! and the candy cane
can remind us of the Savior’s love and care for us.
Jesus was cruelly and severely beaten which left stripes upon his
back. In remembrance of his suffering
and crucifixion for our sins, the candy cane is white with red stripes,
representing the blood of Jesus that washes away our sins and leaves us pure as
snow. One bold stripe represents our
belief in God, who is the Father of us all. The three fine stripes stand for
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the three members of the Godhead. They know us, love us, protect us, and will
always be near if we desire it and make it possible by being worthy.
I did not invent the candy cane and its symbols, but I want you to
know and always remember that this is my testimony of our living Father and his
Son, Jesus Christ.
May this year, 2007 provide happy memories to treasure and quiet times
to contemplate your many blessings from our Heavenly Father. I wish you good health and much happiness
always. I love you very much.
Love, Great Grandma Bateman
